Society for the Protection of Historic Buildings (SPAB)

Offering information, publications and free, impartial technical advice on the care and repair of old buildings, the SPAB offers guidance on subjects ranging from controlling dampness in solid walls that need to 'breathe' to improving energy efficiency and the use of lime mortars. 

It holds short courses and runs a unique six-month training scheme for young craftspeople. The SPAB is the UK's oldest, largest and most technically expert building conservation charity.
